Nose pressed against the window
I watch the crowd inside

Wishing I were with them
Feelings that I hide

My daughter catches a glimpse of me
And wishes I’d go home.

Or somewhere else, where she couldn’t see
Me feeling so alone.

She wants me to go to a different store
Where I can celebrate

And others can rejoice in me
As I get the love I rate.

And she can carry on her life
Not worried about her mom

Not guilty for the fun she’ll have
If I can just be strong

And go somewhere else
Where I’m wanted now

And she won’t have to choose
To stay inside or comfort me
In which case we both lose

So I’ll turn away and leave now
There are other stores around

Or I’ll open my own and attract a crowd
And be the best in town.

Nose pressed against the window

I watch the crowd inside

Wishing I were with them

Feelings I try to hide

My daughter catches a glimpse of me

And wishes I’d go home.

Or somewhere else, where she couldn’t see

Me standing bereft and alone.

She wants me to go to a different store

Where I can celebrate

And others can rejoice in me

As I get the love I rate.

And she can carry on her life

Not worried about her mom

Not guilty for the fun she’ll have

If I can just be strong

And go somewhere else

Where I’m wanted now

And she won’t have to choose

To stay inside or comfort me

In which case we both lose

So I’ll turn away and leave now

There are other stores around

Or I’ll open my own and attract a crowd

And be the best in town.
